On-site machining — line boring & milling

On-site line boring and portable milling for crane bores, rail supports and mating surfaces. We bring machining to the component where access and the repair scope make this practical.

THE APPLICATION

Machine the component where it stands.

Moving a large crane assembly to a workshop is not always practical. On-site machining allows selected bores and surfaces to be worked in position. STARKON plans the machine setup around the component, the required geometry and the available working space.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • On-site line boring for aligned bores and pin connections
  • Portable milling of rail beds and support surfaces
  • Machining preparation following dismantling or an agreed weld repair
  • Datum selection, machine alignment and dimensional checks
  • Coordination with replacement bushes, shafts and rail components

ON-SITE LINE BORING

Bores and pin connections.

Machining aligned bores in crane pivot arrangements, brackets and bearing supports to the specified geometry. Access for the boring bar and drive, the datum arrangement and the target bore dimensions are checked before the machine setup is agreed.

PORTABLE MILLING

Rail beds and mating surfaces.

Local milling of rail supports, mounting faces and mating surfaces where the repair requires a controlled level or fit. STARKON has used mobile milling during its short rail replacement work to prepare the supporting profiles before installation.

REPAIR PLANNING

Two processes.
One repair scope.

Line boring and milling address different geometries. Bore machining restores the specified bore size and alignment; milling works a surface to the required level and geometry. The drawing, measured condition and assembly requirements define the work.

We confirm the machining allowance, target dimensions and inspection requirements before execution. Any weld build-up, repair bush or supporting steelwork repair is defined separately as part of the agreed engineering scope.

PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Planning the work.

What information is needed to quote on-site machining?

Start with drawings or measured dimensions, photographs and the available access. We also need the required geometry and tolerances, material and maintenance window to define the machine setup and work scope.

Can machining be combined with crane repairs?

Yes. Machining can be planned alongside dismantling, specified weld repairs, bore or bush restoration and replacement component installation.

REQUEST A QUOTATION
